I think I’ve played with the Nokia N81 8GB enough to render a verdict. If you want to see how I got here, read the following posts:

We had a bit of snowfall here in the Seattle area on Saturday. It made getting around a little bit entertaining. My son decided to scrape what little snow he could up and made a tiny little snowman, which you can see at the right.
So without further ado, here’s some posts I penned in the […]

After the firmware upgrade to the Nokia N95, I switched back to the Nokia N95 for a couple of days to see how the new 20.0.015 firmware worked. It worked especially good. However, one problem remained: the absolute crap battery life. Yes, I have an N95-1, which has the 950mAh battery, and the way I […]

The least impressive part of the Nokia N81 8GB, from my point of view, is the camera. Perhaps it is because I am spoiled by the N95’s 5 megapixel goodness, but let’s face it: the N81 is a music device, not really a camera device. I was not happy with a single shot I took […]

One of the cool things about the Nokia N81 8GB is that podcasts are actually treated like first class citizens now! As you can see, it’s right there with Music.
Disclaimer: Yes, I work there, but they don’t pay me to write about phones. I do it because I like to, and these are my opinions, […]

I think I’m over the uncomfortable bits of my strep throat. There are stragglers, of course, but I think I’m back in action. It’s a good thing I blog ahead since I was pretty thin with posts this past week. Looks like I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.
So without further […]

The next part of the Nokia N81 I’m going to talk about is the Navi Wheel. It has some good and bad points, which I will get into.
Disclaimer: Yes, I work for Nokia, but these are my opinions, not theirs. They don’t pay me to write about phones.
The Navi Wheel is over the square […]

Last week, I got a surprise package at my front door: a Nokia N81 8GB, courtesy of the fine folks at Comunicano who run the Nokia Blogger Relations program. I’ve had a few days to play with the device and will do a series of posts about the device.
The first post I will do is […]

Devices with cellular, WiFi, and/or bluetooth radios can only be used on a commercial airline flight–in the US anyway–if the device can be switched into what is referred to as Flight Mode. This mode essentially disables all radios on the device so that it can be used “safely” on an airplane, but other functions on […]

What you see here is a “makeshift” router of sorts: the combination of a simple 5-port switch and a D-Link DWL-G730AP that I had purchased a while ago. Why am I using this when I have a perfectly good Linksys router I could use that does both of these things (the router pictured here)?
Quite simple, […]

This was one of those weeks were I felt “needed”–a lot. It made for a stressful week. Ended the work week on a high note, though, which is always a bonus.
Meanwhile, here’s this week’s rundown of what I’ve written:

When I was looking to get a EVDO card last month, the Sprint store I went to on Van Ness in San Francisco did not have this guy on display. If they did, I would have bought this guy.
Oh sure, I like my AirCard 595U, but like the folks at CrunchGear say, it’s a fattie. […]

This old intermission from a Drive In movie theater pretty much sums up my opinion on Daylight Saving Time (yes, it’s that time again in the US).

Last week at Evening With S60, I did get to see a Nokia N810 very briefly. Major differences between my N800 and this device:
Slide-out keyboard (N800 has no keyboard)
Camera isn’t on a pop-out cylinder, but on the outside
Built-in GPS
2gb of internal storage (versus an SD slot)
Different battery, but same capacity
It is quite the device. I […]
